Spot #8: Edward H. LaBorde Viewing Area

Summary:
A public viewing area with picnic tables that offers a good view of all movements on runway 35L and departing aircraft on runway 17R. 17R departures can be an impressive sight, depending on the aircraft and its weight, with great engine sounds. Aircraft landing on 35R or 29 are visible in the distance.

Pros:

Arrivals on Runway 35L are fairly close up, and larger aircraft departing 17R rotate farther down the runway, making for some incredible rotation shots.

Cons:

17R landings are virtually impossible to see from here, and the touchdown zone of 35L is obscured by terrain unless you stand on a picnic table. During the summer it can quite busy, and families bring their children here often. Background noise, so to speak, may affect one's videos.

Security:

None, this is a public viewing area.

Notes:

There are several restaurants that are a short walk or drive from this location. To access this spot, from McKnight Blvd, head north on Aviation Blvd NE, continue along the road and turn right at the 4 way stop. Follow the road from there to get to the spot.
